Most of the people are of the view that being a work at home mother offers you the chance to spend considerable time in both of your worlds and allows you to develop your career in the same way as your family life. In this way, you can certainly make money while spending valuable time with your children as well. It is not an easy task to juggle both your family life and work demands at the same pace and the requests of your children might be demanding and exhausting at the same time. But, working from home offers us the option of spending considerable time with the children without having to rush to the office.
For mothers who have young children, making the home your office is economical and less stressful than working mothers who work at offices at fixed hours. In this manner, you can save considerable time without getting stuck in traffic. However, there are a number of disturbances involved when you work from home as relatives and friends might call you at odd hours, interrupting your time, or you might have to run errands since most of the people will think that you do not have a ‘real’ 9 to 5 job. Therefore, it becomes necessary to balance motherhood and your job in the right sense.
If you have older children
1) You can speak to your older children as to why you are starting your work and how it will help to rebuild your career and will also be the added income to your family. Talk to them about how it will be advantageous since you no longer have to travel for your job.
2) You need to make the children understand your working hours. This will let them know what hours you are busy and when you are available to complete their requests and demands.
3) You can also inform your friends, neighbors and relatives about your working hours and you can request them not to disturb you during this time.
4) You need to divide the household chores between your children and should tell them to do it without any reminders. Stick the chore schedule in a common area so that they are reminded of the same every time they pass through that area.
For Younger Children
1) In case you have young children, you need to join such a company which allows you to set your own schedule and for whom you can work at your own pace. Flexible hours are a must in such situations else it will pose as a problem especially if you have needy children.
2) You can try to keep your schedule either early in the morning or during the nap times so that you can do your work without any disturbance.
3) If your work does not include talking on the phone, then you can keep the cradle or a mobile crib in your office room itself so that you need not have to waste time monitoring your child who might be in a different room then.
4) Don’t forget you need to spend quality time with your spouse as well and also make sure that you include time which involves taking care of yourself as being a mother does not mean that all these aspects should take a backseat.
